Homophobia is being partly blamed for a World AIDS Day fundraising event being cancelled in Hamilton.
The organisers of Frankton Markets have told a group of drag queens their show could not go ahead because of opposition from stall keepers and shop owners.
Hamilton based entertainer Dennis Ralph says rival factions are trying to gain control of the markets and some didn't like the idea of the drag queens. Ralph says the market is divided and he is disappointed by what has happened.
He says it's a public street and the council needs to step in. He says it's unfair because every other minority group has been allowed to take part in the markets.
Ralph says there's no reason to create a lot of smoke when the main focus should be about the Red Ribbon Appeal.
