A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has struck the Bay of Plenty.
The 290km deep quake struck at 1.35pm and was centred within 5km of Te Puke.
It ws felt as far away as Wellington.
It follows a series of sizable quakes in the North Island this month.
A 5.3 magnitude quake struck 30km east of Murupara early Saturday morning, while a 5.7 quake struck near Turangi on July 7.
A 7.0 quake off Opunake on July 3 was felt across much of the country and caused items to fall from shelves.
