5.2 magnitude quake shakes North Island

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has been felt in the lower North Island this evening.

The quake struck at 6.57pm, 30km south of Dannevirke, and was centred 30km below ground.

GeoNet has had dozens of reports from people saying they felt the quake, mainly in Palmerston North and Wellington.

It has been reported as being most strongly felt in Levin and Palmerston North.

Emergency services say they have had no reports of any damage.
