Next year's V8 Supercars event in Abu Dhabi will be the first day-night race in the championship's history.

The February 18-20 event at the spectacular Yas Marina circuit will be the championship opener in 2010 and V8 Supercars executive chairman Tony Cochrane says the twilight race will be the perfect way to start the year.

"We could not have asked for a better way to start the 2010 season," Cochrane said in a statement.

"The first V8 Supercar race at Yas Marina Circuit, the first V8 Supercar race under lights.

"Fans and spectators are going to get a fantastic show at this amazing new world class circuit.

"It is the first time that V8 Supercars will race under lights, on Friday and Saturday evenings at the event, which will be a two by 200km race weekend.

The V8 Supercars will also be the first series to use a stunning high speed off-camber left, right, left turn sequence - known as `the corkscrew' - at the futuristic circuit.

"The phenomenal facilities at Yas Marina are absolutely mind-blowing and the lighting is out of this world," Cochrane said.

"Utilising the corkscrew section of the track for the first time of any category is also a huge honour for our sport and will provide some of the best racing of the year."

Next year's Abu Dhabi event will be followed by the Desert 400 in Bahrain the following weekend in a Middle East double-header for the championship.

The first domestic round of the 2010 V8 Supercars championship will be the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide from March 11-14.
