New Zealand V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards has lost his battle with cancer, it has been confirmed.
Richards passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Charlotte by his side at 8.00pm last night.
He was just 35-years-old.
Richards was forced to stop racing when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer late last year.
His family said in a statement today that they appreciate the love and support fans have offered the Supercar driver during his battle with illness over the past 14 months.
The three-time Bathurst runner-up was well known for his likeable personality. Richards moved to Australia in 2001 to drive a V8 Supercar after stints in the English Formula Ford and New Zealand touring car series.
A memorial service will be held at Sandown in the coming weeks.
The family requests that their privacy be respected during their time of grief.
