MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi suffered a couple of early spins on the first of two days of Ferrari tests in Barcelona on Wednesday but soon settled down to post decent times.

Rossi, driving a 2008 Ferrari in his sixth Formula One test, is interested in a career on four wheels when he retires from bikes although he has said a move into rallying is more likely.

Heavy overnight rain meant the circuit was wet but many fans still turned out to see the 30-year-old, the Italian team said on their website.

Ferrari have tried to recruit Rossi in the past and team boss Stefano Domenicali said last week he would check on the Italian's availability if they had the chance to race a third F1 car in the future.
