Kiwi V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards and team-mate Cameron McConville will start from fifth on the grid in Sunday afternoon's Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama.
Richards failed to reproduce his qualifying speed in the top-ten shootout, clocking a time over half a second slower than Garth Tander.
Holden star Garth Tander has claimed pole position for Sunday's
Bathurst 1000.
The Holden Racing Team driver clocked a two minute, 07.946 second
lap on a partially wet Mount Panorama circuit to become the first
man to claim back-to-back poles at Bathurst since Mark Skaife in
1997-98.
Tander and Will Davison will begin Sunday's 1,000km race ahead of
TeamVodafone duo Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup, who are chasing
an unprecedented fourth straight Bathurst crown.
Ford driver Mark Winterbottom, slapped with a $5,000 fine for
careless driving following an incident in Saturday's practice
session, will start the race third on the grid ahead of rising
Holden star Lee Holdsworth.
Stewards hit Winterbottom with a $15,000 fine in total - $10,000 of
which was suspended pending any further incident.
It is the third time this weekend Winterbottom has been involved
in similar controversy, with Holden rivals Rick Kelly and Tander
believing they were blocked by his car as they attempted to do
quick laps on Thursday and Friday.
New Zealand star Greg Murphy suffered a drama in the Top 10
shootout, his time being excluded by stewards after a pit lane exit
issue.
That means the Holden man and co-driver Skaife will start the race
from 10th position.
Meanwhile, a huge crash has marred the V8 Ute support
race.
West Australian driver Allan Letcher rolled his vehicle several
times in a three-car tangle, but escaped without serious
injury.
