Jason Richards has been remembered by fans and drivers alike at a public memorial at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne.

The Kiwi V8 Supercar driver passed away last month after a battle with cancer.

Richards' BOC team-mates Jason Bright and Paul Dumbrell, as well as Richards father shared their memories.

Fellow driver and friend Cam McConville spoke at the ceremony, and thanked those who supported Richards in his final months.

He says his and Richards' daughter are best friends so he thanked those who had done so much for him and the family.

McConville says he is getting involved to promote awareness of the rare cancer that Richards had.

He says it was special for the fans to be able to sit among the drivers and say goodbye to Richards.

A BOC team bonnet was signed by fans and will be presented to Richards' family.
