Australian actor Eric Bana has confirmed he will compete in next month's Bathurst 12-hour endurance event.

The star of films including The Time Traveller's Wife, Chopper, Black Hawk Down, Hulk, Munich and Troy is a regular competitor in Australian motorsport events, competing in Targa Tasmania rallies and the Porsche GT3 challenge.

The 41-year-old will take part in the February 14 event in a Mitsubishi Evo X alongside teammates Tim Leahey and Peter Hill - whom he competed with in the 2009 12-hour event.

The trio finished 10th overall in the 2009 race and Leahey said the team was hoping to finish higher this year.

"At the end of the day we are better prepared than we were this time last year," Leahey said.

"Pete and Eric are a lot more advanced than they were last year and we are definitely in with a chance to win."

Over 40 cars are expected to take part in the fourth 12-hour enduro at Bathurst, which will also feature an alternative energy class for diesel, hybrid and LPG entries.
