Scott Dixon's hopes of defending his IndyCar racing title are now hanging by a thread.

The Kiwi will start from sixth on the grid for Sunday's race at the Chicagoland speedway after a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday.

Dixon is now third in the standings, 21 points behind championship leader and pole sitter Ryan Briscoe.
