Kiwi driver Scott Dixon has qualified 6th for the second race of the Indycar season in Long Beach California on Monday.

Dixon is eyeing a big shift up the Indycar Championship but knows it will be a tough take.

The defending champion is 16th on the table on 14 points, 36 behind overall leader Australian Ryan Briscoe.

Dixon says after the disappointment in St Petersburg, he's hoping things come right this weekend and his team will be more cautious about the decisions they make at Long Beach.

Will Power has pole ahead of Dario Franchitti.
