Scott Dixon is attempting to join an elite group in American motorsport when he defends his Indianapolis 500 crown on Monday morning.
The 28-year-old is seeking to become just the sixth driver to win back-to-back Indy 500 titles.
Chip Ganassi managing director Mike Hull says consistency is the key to successfully defending the title.
Hull says they have got to be at the front heading into all of their pit-stops in order to have a chance of being at the front at the end.
The defending champion will start from fifth on the grid and the Kiwi says he wants to quickly make up the spots he lost during qualifying.
Dixon says he wants to gain two or three spots in the first couple of laps so he is going to be fairly aggressive.
Two-time former winner Helio Castroneves will start from pole alongside team-mate Australian Ryan Briscoe and Scot Dario Franchitti.
The drivers will receive the iconic "start your engines" call at five o'clock.
