Scott Dixon has qualified second fastest for the latest round of the Indy Car series in Virginia.

The defending series champion will start alongside Chip Ganassi team-mate Dario Franchitti on the front row at the Richmond International Raceway.

The Kiwi driver sits third in the championship, 15 points behind series leader Ryan Briscoe.

Dixon came fifth in the last round of the Indy Car series at Iowa.

Australian Briscoe will start fourth on the grid.
