The Indy Car season begins early Monday morning (NZT) in Sau Paulo, with New Zealand's Scott Dixon desperate to avoid a repeat of his start to the 2009 season.

Dixon finished 16th and 15th in the opening two rounds last season, before going on to finish second in the championship.

He says racing on a track none of the drivers has ever seen will make it much more important to hit the ground running.

But the 2010 season has begun in controversial fashion with the newly opened track in Brazil deemed unsafe because of a slippery homestraight.

Qualifying for Monday's race was cancelled after several drivers including Dixon complained about the track during practice.

The track was officially opened on Saturday and qualifying will now take place before Monday morning's race.
