Kiwi driver Scott Dixon's been forced out of the Daytona 24 hour motor race due to engine trouble.

Dixon's Chip Ganassi Racing Team dominated the opening exchanges of the race, opening up a one-lap lead after three hours and leading 132 of the first 247 laps.

But a piston failure saw them forced to withdraw.

Dixon was sharing the same car as Juan Pablo Montoya, Dario Franchitti and Jamie McMurray.
