About Leigh Hart
Leigh Hart was born in Greymouth on the West Coast. He spent the first 10 years of his life living overseas with his parents. Four years were spent high in the Andes of Peru while his father worked on a tunnel project. (They lived higher than Mt Cook at 13,000 feet).
He returned to New Zealand and attended boarding school in Christchurch. Just out of school, Leigh attended Canterbury University for a year before pulling out to take up a job constructing the Channel Tunnel between England and France. He worked below the sea pumping concrete into the roof.
Leigh Hart's first experience in showbusiness came from playing
in a band throughout the 90s. This came to an abrupt end after an
ill-fated tour of France that saw him and his band members jailed
for 12 days and deported back to New Zealand.
Leigh then decided to make a start in TV. His first job was at
Auckland-based production company, Greenstone Pictures, as a
researcher and writer.
His first real on-screen debut came as Sports Café's roaming reporter, 'That Guy'. A role that saw him interview most of the country's top sporting personalities in his own inimitable way and travel to two Olympic Games and a Rugby World Cup.
Leigh has since gone out on his own to produce his own show,
Moon TV, an eclectic half hour comedy show. His humour has also
been put to use more recently on TV2's Shock Treatment, TV ONE's
Fair Go and most recently Test the Nation.
As a writer, he has a regular column in the Herald on Sunday and
occasionally still plays music. Leigh has just completed a new
series of Moon TV, that once again sees him travel all over the
globe. Leigh is recently married and is the proud father of a
14-month-old son, Sam.
