About Monteith's Wild Food Challenge
Starting Thursday October 6th at 9.30pm on TV ONE.
Over eight episodes, chefs Mark Southon and Wylie Dean will travel to the 2011 MONTEITH'S WILD FOOD CHALLENGE exploring grassroots fare and sharing exactly what makes wild food ingredients ignite any dish. They'll meet restaurateurs competing from throughout regional New Zealand, all showcasing their own ingenuity when it comes to celebrating wild food. In the final episode, the best restaurants will compete in an ultimate cook off at the Foodstore on Auckland's Viaduct Harbour.
Each week, Mark and Wylie will visit some of the best restaurants competing in the Monteith's Wild Food Challenge.
Now in its fourteenth year, the event sees chefs creating one main dish using wild foods sourced from within 100 kilometres of their restaurant. This year, Mark and Wylie will be there to examine the mastery blend behind each of the restaurants dishes. There will be slick techniques, exceptional flavours and Monteiths ales to match.
Most importantly, MONTEITH'S WILD FOOD CHALLENGE will reveal the inspiration that makes a dish what it is - the soil and the surroundings where it all began. Inspired by the land.
The series will culminate in one final cook off at the Foodstore on Auckland's Viaduct Harbour. Only the best restaurants from the Monteith's Wild Food Challenge will get the chance to make one more dish.
Finally, one restaurant will be named the winner of the Monteith's Wild Food Challenge.
In MONTEITH'S WILD FOOD CHALLENGE, witness the thrill of wild cuisine, the diversity of local New Zealand and the real meaning of food when chefs pursue their inner hunter-gatherer.
