About Mind Your Language
Saturdays at 9.30am on TV2
Mind Your Language is the game show that tests the Maori language skills of three well-known Maori personalities. Full of cheeky wit and wordplay, the show gives viewers - at any level of Maori language - the opportunity to develop both their knowledge and understanding of the language.
The show is hosted by Clinton Randell (Te Rarawa) and Maori language expert, Scotty Morrison (Te Arawa), who has the final word on matters of language. Highly respected for his Maori language proficiency, the Te Karere presenter acts as Matanga Reo (language consultant), explaining answers in full and dishing out points at his discretion.
In each episode, three Maori celebrity contestants with beginner to mid-level te reo Maori competency, compete in six rounds of fun word games. These include the sculpture challenge, the whakaahua/photo round, hangman and the classic buzzer round. Colloquial modern language skills are put to the test - from grammar, pronunciation and spelling to nuances in language and proverb translations. In the final round, two players are left to go head-to-head in the ultimate te reo test - one will receive the honour of being the winner.
Over the 24-part series, contestants will include All Black Hosea Gear, Shortland Street's Ben Mitchell, the J Geeks, Veeshayne Putawai, Good Morning's Matai Smith, Mai FM's Brent Mio, K'Lee, Rua Tipoki and Te Kaea's Peata Melbourne.
Fresh, funny and uniquely Maori, Mind Your Language is an
entertaining and enjoyable way for all New Zealanders to improve
their understanding of te reo Maori.
