More on Les Judd
Les grew up on a kumara farm in Ruawai, Northland. From an early
age she was fascinated by animals, conservation and the outdoors;
this led to her to gain a BSc in Zoology from the University of
Otago and a graduate diploma in wildlife management.
With an interest in Maoritanga she has also gained a diploma in Te
Ara Reo Maori through Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
For the last five years she has been working as part DOC's highly
successful and internationally recognised Grand and Otago Skink
Recovery Programme. Currently, she coordinates the DOC side of the
grand and Otago skink captive management programme; liasing with
captive breeders and zoos across the country.
Les spends much of her year outdoors: monitoring critically
endangered lizard populations, capturing skinks for breeding
programmes and running a quarantine facility.
