Conservation Week 2009 events


Want to get involved in Conservation Week?

There are many events scheduled around New Zealand, and you can find out about what's happening in your neighbourhood here.

Here are just a few of the activities on offer:

Art exhibition at Te Manawa, Palmerston North

Details: Visit 'Slug, Snail and Spider Tales', an art exhibition that challenges the popular perception about high profile threatened species being more important for conservation than the lesser known, sometimes quirky or obscure species typical of the region.

When:   11th September - 6th December, 10am to 5pm

Where:  Te Manawa, 326 Main St, Palmerston North

Castlepoint scenic reserve, dune planting, Wairarapa

Details: Get involved by helping restore part of this stunning coastline and dune system. 

When:   16th September, 9.30am ranger talks; 10.30am planting; 1pm beach clean-up.

Where:  Meet at Castlepoint Scenic Reserve entrance by the church

Wellington Weed Swap, Wellington

Details: Get involved in restoring your own backyard's native environment by finding your worst garden weed and swapping it for a free native plant.

When:   19th September from 1pm to 4pm

Where:  Civic Square, Victoria St, Wellington

Motuihe and Motutapu island restoration, Hauraki Gulf

Details:  Get involved by helping restore the natural and cultural landscapes of two of the Hauraki Gulf's beautiful islands, Motutapu and Motuihe

When:   Motutapu - 20th September;  
              Motuihe - 13th or 20th September

Where:  Motutapu - Departs Auckland downtown via Fullers ferry at 9.15am, or Devonport at 9:25am;  
              Motuihe - Departs Auckland via 360 Discovery ferry from Pier 4 at 9.15am.

Project Jonah Coastal Cleanups, Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch

Details:   Roll up your sleeves and get dirty in a bid to combat marine debris for International Coastal Cleanup day

When:     19th September.

Where:    Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch.
