Ross' attachment to the natural world started very early on with family holidays at Mahia in New Zealand.  His first job, whilst still at school, was at Marineland, where he formed an affinity with animals and the sea. 

This led to a Zoology degree and later to work for National Geographic and Network of the World, filming large mammals on the sea.

Travel features largely in his life, both professionally and for leisure.  Frequent and extensive trips throughout Asia have re-enforced his love of the continent and its peoples.  His most recent project was to establish a restaurant on the Coromandel coast of India, just south of Madras.  Teaching at cookery schools in Italy and France has deepened his love of the traditional cultures of both countries.

Repeated visits to South Africa and those countries have underscored a deep knowledge of wine and it's pairing with food, he has worked for a number of top quality wine companies in Europe and abroad.

Charity commitments have lead to him being a patron or supporter and fundraiser for The Galapagos Conservation Trust, Action Against Breast Cancer, The South African Red Cross Children's Hospital, Focus on Food and Action against Hunger.

Ross is no stranger to TV - you'll have seen him on such shows as MasterChef (where he was a finalist in 1993), NZ Ready Steady Cook with Kerre Woodham and Good Food live, which was co-presented with Jenny Barnett for 2 years - to name but a few.

Ross has cooked freelance since 1993 in Britain, France, Italy, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Bahrain, India and South Africa.  He has taught amateurs and professionals in each of those countries as well as founding and running "The Contemporary Catering Company", which became latterly "Flying Kiwi Productions". 

He catered events such as the Turner prize for 700, The Princess Elizabeth cancer Foundation at the Natural History Museum for 300 and The Big Ask Live for Friends of the Earth for 600. 

Ross' latest project is the establishment and running of Café Kipling outside of Chennai, India for a 6 month contract.
