Week Nine Recap
Week 9 (starting 13 September)
On Monday the bottom three contestants Carrie, Jimmy and Peter faced a surprise announcement that they would be heading to Melbourne for their elimination challenge. They were tasked with sourcing ingredients from the Queen Victoria Markets before making their own way to the Langham hotel to cook a difficult Stephanie Alexander Duck dish. All three struggled with the tough challenge in a new city but in the end Carrie was the one eliminated.
The other remaining contestants joined Jimmy and Peter in Melbourne for a surprise week of challenges.
Last week's Modern Australian invention winner Marion cooked off against Frank Camorra for her Celebrity Chef Challenge on Tuesday. They cooked Cornetta cornets with chicken liver pate outside in a back alley of Melbourne. For the first time this series, Marion was victorious against the celebrity Chef and earnt herself an immunity pin which she can use in a future elimination round.
Mid week it was a special team challenge and the contestants had to relaunch George's restaurant the Press Club, catering to 200 A list guests. Marion's extra prize was revealed and instead of participating, she shadowed George throughout the day. The rest of the contestants were divided into Red (Claire, Sharnee, Alvin, Peter, Adam, Jake, Skye) & Blue (Jimmy, Callum, Jonathan, Aaron, Fiona, Matthew, Joanne) teams. Each team were responsible for every element of half of the restaurant and the customers will voted and the team with the most votes wins. Both teams have ups and downs, but in the end manage to pull off a successful relaunch for George. The Red team beat the blue team 246.5 points to 234 points, leaving the blue team to face elimination.
On Friday, the winning Red team headed to the wine cellar at
Domain Chandon for lunch and a wine matching session. As an added
bonus Claire and Jake got to take a scenic helicopter ride over the
Yarra valley. Meanwhile the Blue team's elimination challenge was a
mystery box challenge. They had to create a dish to match a bottle
of Chandon in only 30 minutes. Some contestants excelled at their
dish and matching the wine but Fiona fell short and was the next
