The West Auckland kapahaka, Te Taha Tu made their debut at this year's Tamaki Makaurau Regional Kapahaka Competitions.
Despite qualifying for the nationals next year, there was discussion of disqualification by the Regional Committee, because one of Te Taha Tu's members performed for two different groups at two different regional competitions.

centre of the controversy.
Phil Parker's thinking ahead.
He believes Maori Football New Zealand can help create the players needed to make All White teams a serious threat at future World Cups.
And while players need not be Maori, Phil thinks they can be crafted in a Maori way. But there are obstacles.
