Is blue the new brown?

THIS WEEK ON MARAE, SUNDAY 24 JULY 2010

IS BLUE THE NEW BROWN?

Some might call it the 'browning up' of the National party.

Thirty up and coming hopefuls gathered in Auckland last week at National's Annual Conference to vie for candidate selection.

Jodi Ihaka joined the party faithful to see if the National blue was a natural fit for one Mäori candidate potential, Claudette Hauiti.

MÅORI PARTY - 'WHAT NEXT?'

Just one year out from their third election, what is the Mäori Party's strategy heading into 2011?

So far, so good.

They've signed NZ up to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Whanau Ora looks prosperous for Mäori families, and they made good on their original election promise to repeal the foreshore and seabed act.  So what next?

Mäori Party co-leader Tariana Turia joins us live from Whanganui.

MAURI TU, MAURI NOHO!

The West Auckland kapahaka, Te Taha Tu made their debut at this year's Tamaki Makaurau Regional Kapahaka Competitions.

Despite qualifying for the nationals next year, they were consequently disqualified by the Regional Committee, because one of Te Taha Tu's members performed for two different groups at two different regional competitions.

Tahuri Tumoana talks to Edmund Eramiha, the performer at the centre of the controversy.
