About Mama Twiga: In the Garden of Eden
Since prehistoric times there is a place in the middle of the Serengeti where giraffes have been the permanent residents. They share the grounds today with the local impalas, Thomson's and grand gazelles. Where these last three live in constant danger because of predators like cheetahs, leopards, lions and hyenas, the giraffes are relatively safe. But their offspring are not!
In this land of predators, danger is all around& In the wet season there is an abundance of food. But when the dry season hits the plains the resident prides of lions go on the attack and over the past 10 years have started successfully targetting the newborn giraffes. This has become a major problem and giraffes are no longer the common sight they once were.
In this story full of joy, luck and sadness, our main character is a mother giraffe - Mama Twiga in Swahili. We witness the birth of young giraffes, grand and Thomson's gazelles and see them come to terms with the world around them, often putting their young lives at risk as they explore their environment.
