Lost - 10 shocking moments
As Lost reaches its 100th episode with some major revelations about the Island, take a look back at 10 highlights of the show.
10) In the pilot episode, we're first introduced to Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun - all the gang. But the real shocker of the series comes at the end when the gang picks up a message on a shortwave radio from a French woman. In the closing seconds, Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) says to them "Guys, where are we?"
9) As season 1 nears its end, we realise that none of the survivors is actually safe - with the first major death of the show being Boone (Ian Somerhalder) who's killed when the plane he's found with Locke falls to the ground crushing him. Still, he should have known better than to go into an aircraft hanging over a cliff really, shouldn't he?
8) In the second season premiere, Man of Science, Man Of Faith, we discover a hatch and the Oceanic 815 survivors try to work out why a hatch would be underground on the island - but as if that's not bad enough, it's manned by Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) - how did he get there and why is he there? Things get spookier when Shannon (Maggie Grace) runs into the jungle and sees a ghostly vision of Walt (Malcolm David Kelley) who was kidnapped at the end of series 1&.by a mysterious group of people known as The Others.
7) In Live Together, Die Alone, the season 2 ender, Locke decides to stop pushing the button in the hatch (the numbers 4,8,15,16,23, 42 need to be inputted into a computer every 108 minutes to stop the electro magnetic energy of the island being released - FYI this is what caused Oceanic Flight 815 to crash). But his decision sees the energy released, the hatch imploding and Mr Eko (who was helping him) near to death. And Sawyer, Jack and Kate are captured by Ben and the Others - and taken goodness knows where on the Island after Michael trades them for the safety of his son Walt - and to rub more salt in the wound, he escapes from the island after selling his friends out.
6) Was there ever a better introduction to the world of Lost than episode 1 of Series 3? As we realised how the Others lived relatively normal lives in a village, and did things like baking for book clubs, there was a visual shocker in store. As Juliet wandered out into their village, the whole island shook with an earthquake - and then as she looked upto the sky, we see the crash for the very first time as Oceanic Flight 815 breaks up mid air.
5) In the episode The Man From Tallahassee, we learnt more about how John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) came to be crippled and in a wheelchair when the flight crashed (even though he could mysteriously walk thanks to something on the island). Tracing Cooper, the man who claimed to be his father and who stole a kidney from him, Locke confronts him - only to be pushed through the window of a skyscraper and sent plummeting to the ground....
4) Still recovering from the death of Charlie (who drowned warning Desmond that the boat approaching the island spelt danger for the castaways), the survivors split off into two groups, symbolising the struggle of the island. On one side is Locke, who believes the Freighter Folk mean trouble for the island - Hurley, Claire, Rousseau, Alex, Sawyer and Ben all join him. Kate takes Jack's side - and the gang which were once so close - but all have secrets to protect both on and off the island, go their separate ways.
3) As Sayid and Desmond infiltrate the Freighter to find out more about their intentions, they come across a friend long thought off the island - Michael - who's masquerading as Kevin Johnson, a janitor on the boat. But we learn Michael's been brought back by one of the Others who warns him that the Island has not finished with him yet..
2) As season 4 ends with rescue for the Oceanic 6, there's plenty of heartbreak too&.trying to stop the bomb (which Ben placed on the freighter) Michael realises he's fighting a losing battle - with seconds before the bomb explodes, he turns around to see Jack's father, the ghostly Christian (who died long before Oceanic Flight 815 crashed) tells him he can go now as the island's done with him - and then BOOM! But there's misery for Sun as well - flying off in the helicopter to safety, she screams in horror as Jin was on the exploding boat.
1) Possibly the most shocking moment of Lost (so far - there's still one series left) involves Sayid and a young Ben. After being forced to return to the island, Oceanic 6 "hero" Sayid finds himself back on the Island back in the 1970s. After being captured by the Dharma Initiative, Sayid escapes into the jungle after persuading a young Ben he will take him to the Others. However, Sayid has other plans and with the words - "You were right about me, I am a killer", he shoots the young Ben twice before making off.....
