The latest poll shows Manukau Mayor Len Brown slightly ahead of Auckland City Mayor John Banks in the race for the Super City mayoralty, but they're only 2% apart.
Brown has 29.8% support and Banks 27.8 %.
The Herald-DigiPoll results come a day before voting papers start going out for the Super City elections on October 9.
The gap between the two main contenders is within the poll's 3.6% margin of error and both men are behind the "undecided" figure of 35.2%.
The numbers from the poll of 750 people are barely changed from last month's poll, which showed Brown on 29.6% and Banks on 28.%.
North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams has dropped from 3.9% to 1% in the latest poll and businessman Colin Craig is down from 3.5% to 1.9%.
Pollster Dr Gabriel Dekel told the New Zealand Herald a trend since early polls of Banks gaining ground, if combined with a low voter turnout among ethnic groups and low-income people who supported Brown, could result in a Banks victory.
