Summer Style Guide on Breakfast
As the weather gets hotter and the holidays are almost upon us, we break down the key style trends for this summer.
Romantic pastels are dominating the stores this summer. Think vintage and ladylike. Team nudes, pale pinks or cream with delicate floral dresses or tops. Fabrics are soft and flowing and subtly textured with lace.
Accessories have a distinctly vintage feel, with delicate jewellery and vintage style belts and bags.
Nude is also popular colour for footwear, plus it has the added benefit of making legs look longer.
If the romantic look isn't for you, bold graphic prints are another must have this season.
Get yourself a statement dress with a distinctive print, or you can choose to tone it down by wearing a bold print on your top half only.
If you're brave, you can even try mixing prints. To avoid looking like an eye sore, pick prints which have similar colours and mix a bold print with a slightly smaller one.
Another key look for this summer is for masculine-inspired casual wear mixed with a chic French touch. This is by far our favourite look of the summer.
Nautical inspired stripes are still very much around for summer 2011 and work perfectly with this trend. Wear with a blazer and boyfriend style jeans or stylish khaki shorts.
Khaki is making a resurgence this season. Cargo pants and shorts are back but in softer fabrics and much more tailored than previous outings.
Boyfriend-style shirts are popular as a fashionable cover-up. Either in light denim/chambray or crisp white, they provide a flattering cover-up over a maxi dress or swimwear at the beach.
Footwear is also slightly masculine, with brogues and boat shoes, or the new season military-inspired sandals.
Accessorise this look with schoolboy satchels or a trilby hat and of course a pair of Ray Bans.
You can try mixing up the key summer trends and pair floral
print tops with more masculine-cut shorts or blazer. Or team a
graphic print with new season cargo shorts. The masculine trend is
ideal, as it easily combines with other looks.
As well as the key trends, the maxi dress continues to dominate summer fashion, with plenty of girls finding it a flattering alternative for the beach. If you want to cover up your legs, maxi dresses are ideal.
On the shorter side? Wear wedges or this season's clogs with your maxi dress to give you a bit more height and avoid looking swapped in fabric.
If you're worried about flashing too much flesh, try layering up more revealing pieces with summer-inspired cover-ups.
Layer a strappy dress or sleeveless top with draped waistcoasts or, for something different, layer a crop crochet vest over a plain dress to create an instant new look.
When it comes to swimwear, bikini-phobics will be pleased to see
the resurgence of one-piece swimsuits this summer.
There are tons of stylish options for those who prefer to keep their tummies covered, plus there are a huge array of new season bikini styles too.
Wedges are a summer staple for this season when it comes to footwear. There are plenty of options from 1970s-inspired looks, perfect for the beach, to futuristic shoe boot wedges for a night on the town.
If you're not in 1990s denial, clogs have been given a millenial
makeover and are a popular choice for
