Episode 6: Bermuda Triangle
On a sunny day 58 years ago, five Navy planes took off from
their base in Florida on a routine training mission, known as
Flight 19. Neither the planes nor the crew were ever seen
again!
Thus a legend was born. The Bermuda Triangle is an area roughly
bounded by Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. No one dare keep
statistics, but in the last century, numerous ships and planes have
simply vanished without a trace within the imaginary
triangle.
The disappearances have been attributed to the machinations of
enormous sea monsters, giant squid, or extra-terrestrials. Alien
abductions, the existence of a mysterious third dimension created
by unknown beings, and ocean flatulence-the ocean suddenly spewing
great quantities of trapped methane-have also been suggested as
culprits.
In a bid to find out whether the Bermuda Triangle really is the
"mysterious graveyard of the Atlantic", Kiwi explorer and now
marine salvage expert Leigh Hart, dares to set sail smack into the
heart of the Triangle. Many exotic theories have been propounded to
explain what happened to the missing travellers, armed only with a
credit card, his knowledge of physics, the paranormal and a tight
fitting set of speedos, Leigh will put some of these theories to
the test.
With tanks upon his back he will dive this ocean in search of the
answers, and attempt to locate some of the actual wrecks whose
disappearance have fuelled this mystery for decades.
Leigh seems to think that this will be the easiest international
mystery of all to crack, which should leave him ample time to get
some sun and explore what else the region has on offer.
