About the show

The fifth series of the highly successful careers show Just the Job is returning very soon.

Just the Job is produced by Dave Mason Productions Ltd and Executive Producer, Dave Mason, says: "It's amazing to be back for our fifth series. The programme has proven successful and that's because it fulfils a need for this type of information. It's a milestone for any television programme to get to series five and we're excited that TVNZ has indicated they want another series after this."

Front person and the face of Just the Job, Clinton Randall, has been with the programme from show one of the first series and returns to introduce each of the three careers profiled each week. The Career Service is also once more involved offering a wide range of valuable tips for job seekers at the conclusion of each programme and alerting viewers to the extensive resources available on its website.

The successful Just the Job format features students from secondary schools around the country finding out about a career and investigating whether it could be 'just the job' for them. For the students it's a great experience to go behind the scenes of some fascinating jobs and be involved in the filming of a television programme.

A DVD of each show is sent to secondary schools throughout New Zealand to be used as a careers resource. "It is used extensively in schools and the feedback has been excellent," says Dave. "The response is very positive and we're delighted a programme that attracts a strong following on TVNZ is also a valued resource beyond the life of the time it's on air."

Between 70,000 and 80,000 viewers tune in to the show plus previous series of Just the Job are repeating on TVNZ6. That's a great result for the Industry Training Organisations, Industry Training Federation and Career Service, which all support the programme and see it as another effective means of profiling the industries and services they oversee.

In this series, watch out for the likes of the tourism special in show four which features careers in Maori tourism, a travel agency and at Te Papa in Wellington. Show seven is a dedicated McDonald's special that delves into an eye opening range of opportunities the restaurant offers. And the public health special in show nine takes a look at the roles of a health protection officer, public health physician and a community health worker.

There are more Maori-oriented careers featured this series including Maori tourism and primary Kura teaching plus Teach NZ careers are part of the show for the first time with the organisation promoting a range of teaching careers plus educational psychology.

"It's great that as Just the Job continues to grow and develop we've been able to bring on board new organisations and expand the careers we feature," says Dave. "We've now filmed 150 different careers which is a wonderful library of information for students and others.

"We all know how hard it can be trying to make the best choice when it comes to a career so our aim is to share as much information as possible and show people how they can give it their best shot to secure the job they want.
