About Just The Job
Popular careers show Just the Job is back on TV2 for a sixth series with more fascinating 'behind the scenes' profiles of a wide range of jobs. When this series concludes, an incredible 180 careers will have been presented during the show's amazing six year run.
Executive Producer, Dave Mason, of Dave Mason Productions Ltd, is delighted the informative concept has proved so successful and that alongside its television run, it has become a valued careers tool for school students and industry training organisations.
"Just the Job has extended its reach with each series and become increasingly recognised as a unique collection of careers information," says Dave. "The great aspect about this programme is the range of careers we have been able to offer an insight into plus the career tips that can help people achieve these jobs. It's never easy deciding on a career and that's where we aim to help."
Along with airing on TV2 Sundays at 5pm, the same episode is
aired for a second time the following Saturday at 9.30am and is
available Ondemand via the TVNZ website.
The proven format is unchanged for the latest series with the
ever-appealing Clinton Randall back at the helm of for his sixth
series of Just the Job. Clinton continues to add a colourful
transition between segments introducing each career being
profiled.
The Career Services will also provide a range of valuable tips at the end of each half hour episode targeted toward giving viewers the tools to go after the career they want and pointing them toward more information on the extensive Career Services website.
Secondary schools throughout New Zealand are now benefiting from an extensive library of Just the Job DVDs, which are distributed to all secondary schools at the end of every series.
In the coming weeks on the show, secondary school students will get some 'hands on' experience in a whole range of industries and organisations to find out what's really involved once they've taken that all-important step into the workforce.
This season of Just the Job gets off to a flying start with an
always exciting Air Force special featuring pilot training
following all the steps involved in becoming a pilot.
New this series Just the Job is pleased to work with corporate
organisations including Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ) to look at the role
of a business development manager, and ANZ Bank in a special
episode profiling three careers in the banking industry.
Other specials to watch out for include a motor industry training organisation special programme focusing on the careers of an automotive engineer, a workshop supervisor and a service advisor, plus a Department of Corrections special, a teaching special and a fire fighter special.
A story that has always been in mind for the show but never
eventuated until now is the career of a vet.
"I've always wanted to feature this career since day one but it's
been finding the right way of doing it," says Dave.
The solution was found by investigating what it takes to be a vet
involved with larger animals, so expect to see the likes of cows
and alpacas featuring, along with the role of a vet looking after
smaller, domestic animals.
"The point of this story is to show how diversified a vet's work
can be," Dave explains.
"The role is now more holistic and advisory, as in the example of
dairy farming, where the vet can advise on the likes of how to keep
milk yields up and keep stock generally healthy."
Wrapping up this series of Just the Job will be a Career
Services special programme that no one should miss about 'how to
get your dream job.'
"This special enhances all the hints and tips throughout the series
by following a lad who is keen on a graphics career who contacts
TVNZ to find out what the job is all about," says Dave.
"It's an example of how a lot of employers will take the time so
show people around if someone has had the initiative to contact
them."
The episode will also look at the interviewing process, writing a covering letter, psychometric testing, body language and how it impacts in a job interview situation along with how to incorporate extra-curricular skills and activities into a CV.
"It's great to be back with a sixth series and a whole range of
new and varied careers, "says Dave. "We know the audience is going
to enjoy following our students as they check out some really
fantastic opportunities during our 10 weeks on air."
