Job description
A Civil Engineering Laboratory Technician carries out a wide range
of sampling and testing of civil construction materials, both in
the laboratory and in the field.
Qualifications required
There are two national qualifications that can be achieved while
working and gaining experience on the job:
- National Certificate in Infrastructure Laboratory Level
4
- National Certificate in Infrastructure Laboratory Level 5 -
this covers the role of a senior technician.
Training costs
As training is done on the job, there is generally no cost to the
trainee.
Location of job
There are opportunities to work as a Civil Engineering Laboratory
Technician with testing laboratories throughout New Zealand and
there are also major projects outside the main centres.
Career path
A Civil Engineering Laboratory Technician can progress to a
Senior Technician and a Laboratory Manager.
Salary range
$25 - $50,000 depending on the company and level of work.
