About I... Dream

I Dream... is the story of what happens when a group of talented youngsters leave their family, friends and normal life behind to sign up for a summer holiday totally unlike any other, in this very special training academy for would-be stars of the performing arts. It's based in a beautiful school called Avalon Heights with lovely grounds that overlook the sea.

I Dream... is a big, bold, grounded yet fantastical, funny yet truthful, half-hour comedy musical drama series that takes the warm, laid-back yet knowing comedy of the S Club shows and cranks it up a notch or two. The aim is to create a show that, while it has its feet very much on the ground with rounded, believable, characters in real dilemmas, isn't afraid to lift its head into the clouds either to embrace the bigger stuff of romance, inspiration, and dreams.

Think LA 7 meets the junior version of the Moulin Rouge. And everyone's singing songs. Lots of songs.

The idea is to make the musical elements central to the show's drama and texture (hence the Junior Moulin Rouge bit) with the songs both springing from, and commentating on, the action and taking it forward. We're talking about a dramatic style that, where at any given moment, if the feeling's right and the tunes in their head, the characters will be as much at ease expressing themselves in song and dance as in speech.

What makes Avalon Heights a really special place is that as well as being a real, normal school - with classrooms and studios and lessons and all that stuff - it's also well and pretty magical actually. Not as in the wizards and wands and spells sense you understand. But in the sense of a place that seems to be just a few degrees off kilter from the everyday, where weird and wonderful stuff can and does happen. All the time. Right when you least expect it.

But more than that, there's that real, lasting magic that comes when a group of talented young people come together in an extraordinary place to open themselves up to change and new experiences, face down their fears and push themselves and each other to the limit - and way beyond. The real, enduring magic of friendship and laughter and adventures and fun, where for the first time you feel you're really living life in big, bold technicolour, with the volume knob on the soundtrack cranked right up to eleven!
