Al Brown, aka Brownie

Alister Brown - Co-owner of Logan Brown Restaurant & Bar and renowned chef

Al enjoys eating just about anything, but most of all simple food, cooked perfectly.

Al grew up in Wairarapa on a sheep and cattle property, his passion for the outdoors and hunting and fishing developing early in life on regular hunting family holidays to the coast.

After leaving school Al worked in the New Zealand hospitality industry, before travelling to North America where he gained his Culinary Arts Degree at the New England Culinary Institute, USA. After working in several restaurants around the world and in New Zealand, Al teamed up with Steve Logan, to open the successful Wellington restaurant Logan Brown Restaurant & Bar in 1996.

Al's flair in the kitchen has earned him plenty of recognition, winning several awards, including helping the Logan Brown Restaurant to attain Cuisine Magazine's 2006 Runner-up Best Restaurant award.

As a New Zealand Trade & Enterprise Ambassador Chef, Al has also been representing New Zealand cuisine internationally since 2003.  In 2005, he cooked for more than 850 guests at the prestigious International Pinot Noir Celebration in Oregon, USA.   In 2007, Al was invited to present at the highly prestigious Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Master Class Series.

Al loves nothing better than trout fishing, snorkelling for paua and other seafood, then sharing a barbecue with friends and family, including his wife Liz, and daughters Alice and Connie.  And when he's not fishing or cooking, he and Steve are indulging in their passion for rugby.
