Memorable Musical Moments by Dianne Swann
Dianne Swann's Memorable Musical Moments (magical even)
1.Touring New Zealand in the summer. Both of us have great memories of touring New Zealand in the summer in our first bands in the Eighties - Brett with the Mockers and Dianne with Everything that Flies (who often supported the Mockers). Great time for NZ music - some great bands around at that time.
2.Seeing REM and Straightjacket Fits live in Auckland - one of the best gigs and loved both bands. (Green tour)
3. Hearing Debaser by the Pixies on BFM in my car and having to pull over and listen. Life changing - for me anyway.
4. Writing our first Adams/Swann composition in London in 1992 on a hot summers day sitting in Queens Park, with hundreds of people around (strange what you can do when you have to). The song was called Roses and was on the first Julie Dolphin EP
5. Opening the NME and seeing our first single (Birthday) as second single of the week (Snoop Doggy Dog was the first)
6. After listening to the Gallagher brothers arguing all day we got off the stage from playing our set (Oasis support) only to be told by Liam that Kurt Cobain was dead. At first I refused to believe it - thought he was just being mean-
7. Touring and Recording with Radiohead enjoying playing to their audience and -recording a duet with Thom Yorke.
8. Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings live at Dingwalls. Breathtakingly beautiful gig and then standing outside in the snow talking to them (we were then signed to the same label- Almo Sounds) then driving out to the airport and stepping out of the plane in the middle of a hot NZ summer for a holiday.
9. Playing a gig at the One Hundred Club in London and loving every minute of it - then looking up and seeing Frank Black in the audience- standing there with two shopping bags full of vinyl and wearing a suit. He asked us sto go on tour with him. (Frank Black and the Catholics) Dream come true?
10. Seeing Jimmy Webb perform solo at a Pizza Restaurant. Both of us grew up listening to and loving Galveston and Wichita Lineman and so sitting there eating pizza and drinking red wine and seeing this person a few feet away playing his songs on a grand piano was very surreal to say the least.
Oh the memories! Help I can't stop...
