  1. For mouldy and dirty net curtains: Fill a bucket with warm water and moderate amounts of bleach and nappysan and soak until mould has gone. Rinse and hang out to dry (always be sure not to splash on clothes).

  2. For extremely dirty and stained toilets: Spray with 1/2 bleach and 1/2 water inside and out, including the cistern. Leave for at least half an hour, then give a good soapy warm wash and dry-off.

  3. For grubby microwaves: Half fill a bowl with warm water, add a couple of pieces of lemon. Place inside the microwave and and turn it on for five minutes. Clean the outside with a wet and dry cloth while waiting. Then wipe the inside and enjoy the lemon fragrance.

  4. For fresh smelling ashtrays: Wash often in a bucket or bowl of hot soapy water then dry off with toilet paper and spray with air freshener. Throw the water from the bucket down the waste water pipes (i.e. the toilet).

  5. When cleaning really bad ovens: Spray with a heavy duty oven cleaner, wait for time given on bottle. Then scrub all trays and inside of oven with hot soapy water using a goldilox. Change the water and dry all trays and oven, then spray with glass cleaner inside and out and buff with a dry cloth. It will shine and if you have done a good job it will look like new.

  6. For a badly stained vanity: Spray with diluted bleach 1/2 to 2/3 water. Leave for five minutes or so, then rinse. Scrub with a greenie and jif, wash off, buff up with glass cleaner for a lovely shine, and the grime has less chance to stick next time.

  7. When wooden furniture (piano) has not been dusted for some time, use a soft damp cloth to wipe over and buff with a dry cloth (the water won't hurt the wood).

  8. When clutter is a problem, spend a little time over a few weeks (i.e. six rooms, six weeks) sorting into "keeps" and "biffs" - put into boxes, wash clothes on floors and get rid of things you don't need. You will really enjoy the new space that you create.

  9. If you have silk flowers covered in grime, sit in the sun in the garden, immerse flowers one stem at a time in warm soapy water with a little white vinegar and twirl. Give a little shake, stand upright and spray with a nice fragrant air freshener or something similar.

  10. Equal parts water and white vinegar sprayed onto windows and wiped with a wet cloth then buffed with a dry clot is a safe and alternative to shop-bought product.
