Ewen Gilmour- The Germans

Ewen Gilmour- The Germans

Ewen Gilmour is an infamous Westie. He's also an award winning comedian.

In 1997, just two years after starting out on his comedy career, Ewen was presented with the inaugural Billy T Award. Waitakere City proclaimed him to be a 'Cultural Ambassador', an honour presented by the mayor in a special ceremony at a car wreaker's yard where Ewen was once employed. He's now one of the City Councillors. No, honestly. He really is.

As well as touring all over New Zealand, Ewen has performed internationally on a regular basis for the last seven years including a stint entertaining New Zealand troops in East Timor.

He was voted off Celebrity Treasure Island, but did find a way to ride his Triumph motorbike on stage during Dancing With The Stars.

Ewen's mother Janet is the keeper of the family heritage, which dates back to the arrival in Puhoi of his great grandfather Wenzel Reisima from Bohemia, in 1863.

In Here To Stay Ewen investigates if the German love of slapstick humour, bread and classical music lent anything to the revered 'she'll be right mate' attitude. At the very least he discovers they do a good line in beer.
