Health officials are concerned the number of cases of whooping cough in Auckland has more than doubled.
Sixteen cases have been reported to the Auckland Regional Public Health Service in the past six weeks, compared to six during the same period last year.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Cathy Pikholz says parents need to get their babies immunised on time.
She says they should be vaccinated at six weeks, three months and five months.
Pikholz says babies who are not immunised in time are four to six times as likely to be hospitalised.
