New Zealand parents are being advised to keep an eye out for signs of pertussis, or whooping cough in their babies.
The country is currently experiencing an epidemic of the illness with the highest rates in four years.
Wellington has been hit badly - and Regional Public Health spokeswoman Dr Margot McClean says parents need to ensure their babies are immunised on time.
The illness is characterised by prolonged spasms of coughing ending in a whoop, but it can start with just a runny nose, sneezing and a mild cough.
There is also an increasing number of people in Auckland becoming ill with measles.
