A Wellington day care centre has been closed due to a swine flu outbreak.

Regional Public Health officials have shut down First Five in Tawa for the week after a staff member came down with the illness.

The centre manager says two other staff members are also ill and a number of children have flu-like symptoms.

She says parents have been asked to take their children home as soon as possible.
