Waiting times at Middlemore Hospital are at their shortest ever.
Emergency Department team leader Vanessa Thornton says 95% of waiting times are now six hours or less.
She says other big hospitals in New Zealand are sitting at 70% of patients being seen within six hours.
Thornton says overseas some patients are waiting 24 hours to be seen.
She adds despite the achievement, they are always working to reduce waiting times.
Health Minister Tony Ryall is heading to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon to help staff celebrate the achievement.
