The second wave of swine flu could hit New Zealand as early as February.

Lower Hutt's Ropata Medical Centre is running the pilot for a new study aimed at finding out how much of the country's population is immune to the illness.

Reid says they are hoping at least 200 people will agree to fill out a questionnaire and take a blood test.

He says the study will allow health authorities to distribute the vaccine much more effectively come winter.

Reid says the second wave of swine flu could come back as early as February or March.
