This week is brain awareness week, a public health initiative by the Neurological Foundation.

The foundation says the brain continually grows and develops, and people can help this with a variety of simple daily tasks, such as spending time with friends and maintaining a social network.

The foundation is challenging people to visit the website, brainweek.co.nz, and take part in the free 'grow a bigger brain in seven days' campaign.

Participants will take part in daily tasks and input the activities they have completed that day. At the end of the week they will be told the number of brain cells they have grown.
