The government has secured additional stocks of the winter flu vaccine from across the Tasman.

Pharmac is buying an extra 125,000 doses, partly as a response to fears about the H1N1 strain.

The extra doses are expected to arrive from Australia next week, and will be added to the 800,000 doses already in stock.

The news comes as health officials confirm the number of definite Influenza A, strain H1N1 cases is still four, with another dozen people on the probable list.

Healthline took more than a thousand calls on Friday - 33% above the normal rate - and many were from people worrying about flu.

In a separate development, the Niuean government has asked for extra screening of passengers leaving on the weekly flight to Niue, after an outbreak of flu-like illness there.
