A third case of measles in Northland in the last two months has health officials reminding parents that vaccination is their child's best defence.

A 10 month old boy in Kaitaia has been confirmed as having the disease, but was not hospitalised and is recovering at home with his family.

It comes after a 14 month old Whangarei girl was diagnosed with measles last week, and a 4 month old boy last month.

Northland Medical officer of Health, Johnathan Jarman, says people most at risk of measles are those who haven't been vaccinated.

But he says it's never too late, the MMR, Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine is free for people between 12 and 40 years old.
