A 40-year-old HIV-positive man will appear in Auckland District Court on Friday accused of infecting three men with the virus and attempting to infect a fourth.

Detective Sergeant Andy King, of the Auckland central adult sex assault team, said that the charges related to three separates males aged 17, 24 and 26 when infected with HIV, and a fourth male who was 31 when he was exposed to the disease.

He said that the police investigation to date has revealed the accused man has been sexually active in the Auckland and Wellington districts, with men and women.

"Anyone who has concerns about their health should contact their doctor or health provider as soon as possible."

He urged people with any information to contact police on 09 302 6637.
