The company running Auckland's troubled laboratory testing service has officially been put on notice.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Auckland District Health Board made it clear that Labtests is not meeting its contract obligations and must improve, or else.
"The company needs to lift its act and deliver what the public expect," says board chair Pat Snedden.
Snedden says the DHB is happy with the actions the parent company Healthscope took on Monday in standing down Labtests' chief executive, Ulf Lindskog.
"We're pleased that they have got the leadership they have got in place at the moment with the seniority coming over from Australia."
But he also warns that it is Labtests' responsibility to ensure that quality and safety is assured.
"If there is any doubt at all about the ability to deliver the contract as required there are remedies sufficient for us to deal with it."
The DHB is promising patients will see improvements at collection centres, that GPs will see improvements in their commununications with specialists and that test results will be processed in a timely way.
