Auckland health officials are unhappy a testing laboratory has hired a camera crew to interview patients about the service provided by a rival.

Diagnostic Medlab has lost the lucrative Auckland Hospital laboratory contracts to Labtests, and has now hired a camera crew to interview patients about the service as they leave.

The District Health Board Manager overseeing the change of contract, Tim Wood, says DHBs are disappointed at the tactic as a number of patients may be going through tough emotional times with their health.

He says the company doesn't seem to be giving any thought to the patients and their situation.

Wood says waiting times under Labtests are now down to around 30 minutes or less, similar to the wait under Diagnostic Medlab.
