Auckland District Health Board will, from Monday, intervene in
the safety and communication aspects of the region's troubled
Labtests service.
The company's accepting the DHB's involvement after days of
criticism over the reporting of test results and long delays
for urgent tests.
Labtests has been under fire since replacing Diagnostic Medlab as
the provider to Auckland DHB last month.
Health and Disability Commissioner Ron Paterson has publicly criticised Labtests after receiving numerous complaints from doctors and patients. Paterson said he has a list of errors, omissions and mistakes made by Labtests and there's a real risk patients could be harmed.
The company is meeting with Auckland's District Health Boards and chief executive Ulf Lindskog has apologised and says they are working hard to address the issues.
He says a direct result line is becoming operational and GPs will also have direct access to a pathologist.
The DHB awarded Labtests the contract in 2006 and after a long court battle with the incumbents Diagnostic Testing, finally opened for business in August.
The health minister has been made aware of the problems and the message he is sending is "fix it".
Have you had recent dealings with Labtest? How have your
experiences been? ONE News would like to hear from you.
