S2 Ep 15: Break On Through (Recap)

The nurses are picketing and abusing doctors going into
work. George, whose parents were unionists can't bring himself to
go into the hospital. Meredith goes to check on her mother and sees
her with Richard.
The interns wait to meet their new resident, Cindy, who is the complete opposite of Miranda. She is happy-go-lucky and likes to heal with love. The interns are not impressed.
A newlywed couple is seen by Alex and Cristina. The wife, Clare, has a bad rash spreading up her leg. Meredith walks past an elderly patient, Grace, who is struggling to breathe so she puts in a breathing tube. George can't cross the picket line so he joins the nurses' strike.
Addison deals with Sian, a pregnant teenager who needs to have a c-section due to complications caused by a tumour. Her mother has to work a 12 hour shift so Izzie says she will look after her.
Richard doesn't tell Meredith that he has visited her mother. Cristina gets agitated with Cindy's idle chit-chat with the newlyweds. Alex joins in being overly friendly. Clare tells them she cut her foot on an oyster. Meredith tells Derek she misses her dog. The nurses ask George to do some of their duties for them.
In the OR Alex tells Cindy that he wants to try her healing with love policy. Cindy gets a call that Clare's rash is a flesh eating bacteria. The patient Meredith revived was a "do not resuscitate" case and her three elderly friends are angry at her for not letting her die.
George checks on the patients for the nurses. Cristina tells Clare's husband that they need to amputate her leg. Cindy argues that it's not the only option and will do whatever they can to save the leg. Cristina disagrees.
Izzie talks with the Sian who had to leave school because of the pregnancy. She has no plans yet and still lives in a trailer park. In surgery Cristina argues for cutting off the leg, Cindy asks for some compassion. Cristina goes out and tells Burke. When he checks on Cindy she proves her point and puts him in his place.
Richard tells Grace's friends that her daughter needs to sign a release to take the tube out. At the bar, the nurses toast George. Alex calls George "Nurse O'Malley" and when a nurse spills her drink on Cristina they all start fighting. Joe breaks it up.
Izzie tells Sian that she had a baby girl when she was sixteen. She grew up in the same trailer park as her and adopted the child out because it was the best option for her. At home, Burke tells Cristina that today was the first time he questioned a surgeon in their OR. He is disappointed that he acted as her boyfriend not a surgeon.
Grace's daughter arrives. Meanwhile, Sian's mother scolds Izzie for telling her to adopt out her baby. Cindy tells Clare that her leg is going to be okay. Grace's daughter signs the release and Meredith and removes the tube. All her friends gather around her bed.
Burke tells Cristina to apologise to Cindy. Meredith waits for
Grace to die. She tells Richard she saw him at the nursing home
with her mother and knows he goes two or three times a week.
Sian's baby is delivered. Grace dies with everyone around her bed
to comfort her. Meredith runs out crying and Derek follows her into
a storeroom. She's having a panic attack saying she doesn't want
her mother to die alone. He calms her down.
Izzie tells Sian that she doesn't regret adopting out her child. Meredith tells Richard that she wants him to keep visiting her mother. Cristina apologises to Cindy, much to Alex's pleasure. Cindy forgives her. Richard comes to an agreement with the nurses.
That night, Izzie and Meredith join George in his bed. Izzie says that they don't know everything about each other.
